Diagnostics and Drivability Problems
Whether a Camaro is running rough, has a warning light on, or is not performing the way it should, correct diagnosis matters more than guessing.
An American Performance Icon
The Chevrolet Camaro has been one of America’s best-known performance cars for generations, blending style, power, and personality in a way few cars ever have.
The Chevrolet Camaro was introduced for the 1967 model year as Chevrolet’s answer to the growing pony car market. From the beginning, the Camaro was offered in a wide range of combinations, from practical six-cylinder models to V8-powered performance cars, and it quickly became one of the defining names of the American muscle car era.
First Generation Camaro (1967–1969): The first-generation Camaro established the car’s identity. These early cars became known for their aggressive styling, strong V8 options, RS and SS packages, and the now-legendary Z/28. For many enthusiasts, this generation still represents the purest early Camaro experience.
Second Generation Camaro (1970–1981): Chevrolet redesigned the Camaro for 1970 with a longer, lower, and more refined shape. This generation lasted more than a decade and saw the Camaro evolve through the changing emissions, fuel economy, and performance challenges of the 1970s while still remaining one of America’s most recognizable sporty cars.
Third Generation Camaro (1982–1992): The third-generation Camaro brought a more modern aerodynamic look and a stronger focus on contemporary performance. Hatchback styling, fuel injection, improved chassis engineering, and special models like the IROC-Z helped define the Camaro in the 1980s.
Fourth Generation Camaro (1993–2002): The fourth generation pushed the Camaro further into modern performance territory. By the late 1990s, LS-powered V8 models helped make these cars especially desirable to performance enthusiasts. Camaro production ended after the 2002 model year, beginning a break in the nameplate.
Fifth Generation Camaro (2010–2015): After an eight-year hiatus, Chevrolet brought the Camaro back for the 2010 model year with retro-inspired styling that connected the new car to the original late-1960s design. This generation helped re-establish the Camaro as a major player in the modern American performance car market.
Sixth Generation Camaro (2016–2024): Chevrolet redesigned the Camaro again for the sixth generation, making it lighter, sharper, and more advanced while keeping the car instantly recognizable. These models offered a range of engines from a turbocharged four-cylinder to powerful V8 combinations, including high-performance SS and ZL1 versions. Chevrolet treated the 2024 model year as the closeout for the sixth generation.
